Latest Nike Air Max 97 News
The Nike Air Max 97 is easily one of the most influential Nike trainers ever, and it’s easy to see why. It’s clean-lines and streamlined aesthetics make the shoe stand out from the crowd from a mile away, and that’s not to mention the countless limited-edition colourways and high-heat collaborative pairs that have launched over the years. Sneakerheads across the globe go wild for Air Max 97’s, and we’ve definitely picked up a few pairs over the years!
Nike Air Max 97 Design
The OG model was designed by longstanding Nike employee Christian Tresser in 1997, and was quickly dubbed the ‘Silver Bullet’. Drawing inspiration from Japanese bullet trains he’d seen whilst on holiday there, the designer put pen to paper and set to work to create a brand-new model - little did he know he would create one of the most iconic sneakers of all time. The OG pair sold out instantly upon its release and became an elusive silhouette to track down, with restocks also selling out lighting-fast. The Nike Air Max 97 was the start of a whole new direction for the brand as they prepared for the turn of the century.
The Nike Air Max 97 itself is loveable for many reasons, the futuristic-looking synthetic upper and lacing system display everything that Nike stands for, speed, style and athletics, while a mini-Swoosh logo sits proudly on both the lateral and medial sides. It was also one of the first Air Max models to utilise a full-length air unit in the midsole cushioning, creating a 360-degree level of comfort across the footbed and outsole. Many claim that these are amongst the most comfortable sneakers on the sportswear market, and it’s easy to see why!
Nike Air Max 97 Colourways
Ever since its induction of fire, the Nike Air Max 97 has remained a desirable silhouette due to the countless great colourways and versions (Air Max 97 Golf, Air Max 97/1) that have launched over the years. One of the most impressive releases was when Nike honoured the OG pair with an anniversary edition in 2017. To celebrate the model’s 20th anniversary, the Air Max 97 ‘Silver Bullet’ would once again launch to the masses. The drop was phenomenal, with sneakerheads of all shapes and sizes queueing up outside retailers to get their hands on a pair.
It’s arguable that the 2017 restock of the ‘Silver Bullet’ retro caused a huge resurgence for the silhouette, as it quickly became more prevalent throughout the sneaker community in the years to come. Shortly after it’s release, high-profile collaborations such as those with UNDEFEATED, Skepta, Sean Wotherspoon and Virgil Abloh (Off-White) launched to great successes, and we’re fairly sure that there’s a link between the two happenings!
