The year was 2002 and Nike finally ventured into the skateboarding market. Before launching Nike SB, the brand's silhouettes such as the Jordan 1, Blazer and Dunk were already popular skate shoes in the 90s. However it took two unsuccessful attempts to enter the skateboarding community before Nike SB finally was accepted.
Giving skaters the shoes they needed, the Nike SB releases boasted thick padded tongues and collars, as well cushioned Zoom Air insoles. Offering the wearer all day comfort and stability, as well as shoes that would stand up to the rigour of a full day of skating.
Launching with skaters such as Brian Anderson and Stefan Janoski, the Nike SB team would go on to include icons such as Eric Koston, Paul Rodriguez, Nyjah Huston and Lance Mountain.
