The highly acclaimed Nike SB Air Jordan 4 is making a comeback in 2025, following its status as one of the most celebrated sneaker releases of 2023. Recently, clearer images of the upcoming Navy colourway surfaced after Nike SB stockists received pairs during a retail summit in Las Vegas.
Alongside the Navy edition, an additional colourway was initially planned for 2025. This version featured Varsity Red accents on the heel plate, midsole, and upper, mirroring the colour blocking of the original “Pine Green” release. However, reports emerged in late December 2024 announcing the cancellation of the red version.
Despite this, Eric Koston recently gave fans a first glimpse of the elusive Varsity Red pair amid the buzz around the upcoming Navy colourway, set to drop in March.
The red design stays true to its skateboarding heritage, featuring “Nike SB” branding on the heel, premium materials, and an updated sole engineered for a better board feel. A clean white leather and suede upper serves as the foundation, while bold Varsity Red details offer a striking contrast.
As a skateboarding legend and a key figure at Nike, it’s no surprise that Koston, nicknamed “Frosty”, has access to this exclusive pair. In fact, he was wear testing the Nike SB x Air Jordan 4 long before its initial launch.
Unlike prior Nike SB Air Jordan 4 releases, the Varsity Red version is a Friends and Family exclusive. This means it won’t see a public retail release, making it one of the rarest collaborations between Nike SB and Air Jordan. Limited production runs like this only enhance the mystique and hype surrounding the sneaker, solidifying its place as a coveted collector’s item.
