Back in April of last year, we reported that the iconic collaboration between Kobe Bryant and Nike was over. Following the untimely passing of the legendary basketball player, Vanessa Bryant stated that she wasn't satisfied with the Beaverton brand's marketing strategy, and was thus forced to cut ties. With that said, almost a full year later, it looks like the partnership is officially back - and here's everything that we know so far.
"Kobe Bryant means so much to so many of us, not just NBA fans but globally beyond the game," said John Donahoe, Nike's President & CEO. "His impact in growing the sport, particularly encouraging women and young people to pick it up, endures as one of his deepest, lasting legacies. Together with Vanessa, we hope to honor Kobe and Gigi by championing a new generation for many years to come."
Two years after his death, the Swoosh will be introducing the Kobe 6 Protro "Mambacita Sweet 16" which serves as a tribute to Gigi Bryant, who also sadly passed away. The proceeds for this release will benefit the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to creating positive impact for underserved athletes and boys and girls in sports.
