The New Balance Made in USA 990v4 "Grey Day" May Be Teddy Santis' Best Work Yet

New Balance’s 2023 “Grey Day” range has been full of bangers, but they may just have saved the best until last. While the majority of pairs dropped last month, the Boston-based brand held back a couple of them in order to kickstart season three of Teddy Santis’ Made in USA collections, and sure enough, they were worth the wait.

Though the colourway also dropped across the 996, 990v6 and 998, it's the 990v4 that’s really caught our attention. There’s something about the v4’s panelling that means it takes colour particularly well, and the 990’s heritage status makes it the perfect host for NB’s classic grey tones.

Here, the “Grey Day” NB 990v4 starts with a light grey mesh base, while navy leather and grey hairy suede overlays add form to the uppers. The brand’s famed ‘N’ logo takes on the same navy shade, the colour also providing the backdrop for the branding hits at the heels. To finish, hints of cream and tan hit the heel tabs and midsole units, a nice callback to Santis’ debut Made in USA 990 release.
