As we head into 2022, it appears that Nike’s basketball department will be putting a huge focus on retro re-releases, as it’s now rumoured that the brand will be relaunching the Nike Air Max Penny 1. The silhouette was designed by Eric Avar in 1995 as a signature sneaker for Penny Hardaway and remains one of the most iconic basketball sneakers of the time period.
Two classic colourways are said to return, the classic black version that was retro’d throughout the 2010s and the whited-out home colorway that until now has never seen a re-release! Both pairs showcase details that are specific to this silhouette including shades of blue that matched with the Orlando Magic’s uniforms at the time and range-specific Air Penny branding.
The uppers will be crafted from a variety of construction materials including leather, synthetics and mesh, with large Swoosh logos embellished on both the lateral and medial sides. Pull tabs are located on both the tongues and heels, while a signature lacing system keeps these firmly on feet. The midsoles reveal a visible Nike Air Max unit under the heel, providing plenty of cushioning and support ideal for performance basketball.
If you’re excited regarding the prospect of these sneakers returning then you’ll have to keep on waiting a little longer yet, as nothing official has been announced. We’ll be sure to update you with the latest as soon as we know more, so for the time being make sure to stay tuned in right here at The Sole Supplier and while you are here, check out exactly how Jordan 11s fit!
