As we’re fast approaching Air Max Day (26th March) we can expect to see the announcements come flooding in for limited-edition releases and brand-new silhouettes. Well, the first of the bunch has just been unveiled in the form of the Nike Air Max Pre-Day, a brand-new model for 2021.
Inspired by Nike’s rich running history and the legendary Steve Prefontaine, the pair combines vintage looks with revolutionary modern-day technology. In case you aren’t familiar with Prefontaine, it’s worth noting that he was a record-breaking distance runner from Oregon who worked closing with Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in the early days of Nike.
Although Steve Prefontaine died young after a tragic accident, his spirit lives on through Nike, with Phil often naming Pre as one of his biggest influences. The uppers on the new sneaker are crafted from fully recycled suede and polyester panels and showcase colour blocking with the legendary Nike Swoosh running through each side. Black branding accentuates the mint-green colourway perfectly.
Underfoot, an aggressive looking midsole unit is reminiscent of 70s runners yet in a totally innovative way, with a fully-visible Air Max unit located under the heel for cushioning at all times. Rugged treads across the outsole complete the look here, adding another feature into the radical design seen across the sneakers.
The Nike Air Max Pre-Day is set to release via the SNKRS app on Air Max Day 2021 (26th March).
