One of the best things about the Dunk is that it can take inspiration from absolutely anywhere. From strains of marijuana to ice cream, the iconic silhouette has pretty much touched on every topic under the sun. Now, it looks like Beaverton brand will be launching the Nike Dunk Low "Setsubun" which pays homage to the traditional Japanese festival - and we're taking a sneak peek!
Celebrating the day before the start of spring in the old calendar in Japan, this special edition Dunk is a nod to new beginnings. Crafted from ultra premium materials include leather and suede, the shoe is painted in an earthy brown and cream palette, while "Viotech" purple tones grace the Nike Swooshes.
A smaller Swoosh is finely embroidered on the lateral toe, and a demon mask can be found on the heel with two Swooshes as horns. The outsole has been given a semi-translucent gum finish, and to round it all off, the insoles feature "Kintoki Throwing Beans at Fleeing Demons" from ukiyo-e artist, Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The last time artwork by Kuniyoshi was used on a sneaker was last year when a piece appeared on a special edition Air More Uptempo.
There's no news on when the Nike Dunk Low "Setsubun" is set to drop, but don't be too shocked if these turn out to be a Japan exclusive. Let us know what you think of this colourway, and while you're here, you might as well take a sneak peek of the Nike SB Dunk Low "Be True" 2022!
