There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Squid Game has become a cultural phenomenon. Ten years ago, creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk was on the brink of bankruptcy when no network would pick up his show. Now, Squid Game has become Netflix's most popular series ever, forecasted to make the streaming service a handsome $900 million according to Bloomberg.
Earlier this month, The Sole Supplier exclusively reported that Vans Slip-On sales shot up by a whopping 7,800% thanks to the show. The TV series has also affected customisers and artists too, as we take our very first look at this Squid Game-inspired Nike Dunk Low.
A reference to the masked staff that play a prominent role throughout the games, these Nikes are painted in a dark pink colour scheme throughout the upper and midsole. The inside tongue tag has been placed on the outside for a deconstructed look, while the toebox have been painted in all-black complete with a white square on the right foot and a circle on the left. This nods the managers and workers in the show.
Perfect for your Halloween fit, the Squid Game x Nike Dunk Low is the work of sneaker customiser Andrew Chiou. It's safe to say that they'll never get a public release but it would be a dream of ours if they actually dropped. Oh, that and 45.6 billion won, of course. Let us know what you think of these customs, and while you're here, play "Red Light, Green Light" with these Squid Game-inspired tracksuits!
