With just over a week to go until the clocks change, summertime is officially on the horizon. And, if you haven’t already started thinking about switching up your rotation for the months ahead, this could be your sign. This absolute banger of a TN has just landed at Foot Locker, and it's the perfect colourway to see you through the hazy summer evenings ahead.
For those who aren’t aware of the TN’s history, it's worth knowing that the model came about through a joint project between Nike and the retailer back in the 90s. The project was originally called ‘Sky Air’ and the resulting shoe, the TN itself, was inspired by sunset skies and palm trees. It was also one of the earliest shoes to feature a gradient colourway although at the time it was a major hold-up to the shoe’s production. Designer Sean McDowell managed to engineer a solution though - he simply asked the factory to start with the lightest shade and simply print over it with darker tones.
These elements both come into play on this particular pair - as the gradient fades from gold to pink to purple the shoe’s design reflects its sunset inspo, while the orange details on the TN branding, Swoosh and shank deliver an extra powerful punch of colour. Finally, a white midsole gives way to yellow-toned visible Air units - a solid reminder that the TN was always designed to be a real statement shoe.
