Artist Tom Sachs and Oregon based sportswear giants Nike have worked together to create what is quite possibly the dopest sneaker launch of all time. So in order to cop a pair of the highly coveted Mars Yard 2.0, you will have to pass space camp, that's a seriously sick concept, just saying.
The Mars Yard initially released in 2012, using the same materials as the air bags on the Mars Rover. This was not too successful with the sneaker going through all of the rigorous checks that is expected but they eventually found that the sneaker 'breaks like a paperclip' when folded continually in the same place.
This new iteration of the sneaker has had the material replaced with a mesh upper and although it is unlike any Nike sneaker that you may have seen before, this silhouette is straight fire. The brown and beige hues with those pop of red are something else.
It also seems Sachs was unimpressed by the fact that people used the trainer as more of a piece of art than as a functional sneaker. The new box reads "These shoes are only valid if worn, and worn to death by you. Posers need not apply."; So I bet you are wondering how you cop.
Well, in order to cop you have to complete a space camp exercise, as well as watch a 40 minutes film about sneaker and art culture. The space camp has already sold out in New York for the initial dates but further dates have been added in to accommodate demand. There will be a London event for this as well, which I am 100% going to. If you can't get to either of these camps then you can cop online but only if you pass 'five tests of digital dexterity'. This is a seriously dope release.
