The CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrille wasn’t exactly on anyone’s 2025 sneaker bingo card, yet here we are; another curveball from the ever evolving sneakerverse.
Since parting ways with Nike two years ago, CLOT founder Edison Chen has been reimagining adidas' most iconic silhouettes with bold, unexpected twists. From bead covered Gazelles to Superstars revamped as dress shoes, Chen has made a habit of pushing boundaries. Now, the classic Stan Smith gets its wildest reinvention yet: an espadrille.
Originally designed in the 1960s as a pro tennis shoe, the Stan Smith eventually transitioned into a lifestyle staple, beloved by fans who’ve likely never set foot on a court. For its latest iteration, CLOT has unveiled two fresh makeovers. The ‘Footwear White’ version is crafted entirely from leather, while the ‘Cloud Black’ comes wrapped in suede. Both pairs retain their familiar silhouette but now feature CLOT's logo stitched in Chinese across the toebox and a midsummer inspired espadrille midsole.
In the six decades of the Stan Smith’s legacy, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. Yet, in an era where mash up sneakers dominate (yes New Balance 1906L, we’re looking at you!) perhaps we should have seen this coming.
The CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrille is set to launch in July, available at CLOT, adidas, the Confirmed app, and select global retailers.
