Remember the ZX Flux craze in 2013? Remember that each ZX "Aqua" retro ends up selling out? Every time the adidas' ZX Series turns up on shelves, its leaves another proud stamp in the model's history. It's no surpise that our notification reminders have been going off for this adidas capsule, the ZX fanbase is a loyal one!
The 2026 calendar is starting off strong for adidas. Reviving two ZX 8000s this January, collectors, OGs and the new generation of adidas fans already eyeing calendars and raffles.
The ZX 8000 isn’t a random runner, it’s a cornerstone of the legendary adidas ZX series, born in the late 1980s as part of the brand’s beloved Torsion equipped performance line.
Over decades, the ZX series has been repeatedly revived through iconic collaborations and coveted colourways, earning cult status not just for its tech, but for style and culture too.
Its roots in UK subcultures, from rave culture to early 2000s street style and even the Grime scene helped lock in its status as more than just a shoe. There’s a reason why Skepta dropped the “I’ve been doing this since adidas Torsion” bar in his Two Plus Two track.
At the heart of the buzz is adidas Consortium, the brand’s most selective, narrative led programme. Launched in 2005 to mark the Superstar’s 35th anniversary, Consortium was designed as a premium playground for boutiques and collaborators to reinterpret classics with a focus on craftsmanship and story, not just logo placement. It’s where heritage meets innovation.
In 2025, Consortium hit a reset for its 20 year anniversary, leaning into fewer but more conceptual projects. The headline act was the Mercedes AMG capsule, dropping three silhouettes including a ZX family hybrid, exclusive first at Asphaltgold and adidas Confirmed.
So why are we talking about Consortium again in 2026? Because these two ZX 8000 colourways mark a shift back to pure ZX roots, a tidy precursor to what collectors can expect from adidas’ premium programme moving forward.
Expect first waves via adidas Confirmed and select UK boutiques (END., Footpatrol, Size?, etc.) ahead of wider adidas releases, check official retailer releases as raffles usually hit late December/early January.
These exact colourways last saw retro looks years ago (the atmos G SNK series being the closest analogue), so this is effectively a first official revival in the modern era.
