After continuing to shift its leftover YEEZY stock from its partnership with Ye throughout the summer, the adidas executive board has officially paused all YEEZY releases throughout 2023/24. The news broke earlier this week as leftover launches were expected to take place in November.
According to internal comms, a message went out that said, “As a brand we will not do a new drop for the remainder of the year both for our internal e-com and retail as well as wholesale.” The release itself was expected to feature a trio of YEEZY BOOST 350 V2s, namely “ Bone ,” “ Onyx ,” and “ Zebra ,” as well as selected 500 and 700 styles.
Details on why exactly the adidas board has taken this stance are hazy, but many online believe it might be to do with the current political climate and avoiding any fallout surrounding Palestine and Israel's conflict. Another reason might be to do with the backlash CEO Bjørn Gulden faced when he appeared on the Nice Kicks podcast and stated, "I don’t think he meant what he said and I don’t think he’s a bad person" when asked about Kanye West.
Other users have speculated that the brand might be delaying the release until after Kanye West releases his new album, as they don't know what he might say. Regardless of the reasoning, we're sure adidas has not taken this decision lightly, especially when you consider the mass of YEEZY fans expecting further releases.
