"Imitation is the best form of flattery," they say. Over two years have passed since Kanye West and adidas ceased producing new shoes, yet Ye's influence still casts a significant shadow over adidas. This hasn't been more evident than in the design behind the upcoming adidas Lightblaze Moc.
As the battle of the laceless sneakers heats up, thanks to Nike announcing it's 3D printed Air Max 1000, we now have another adidas silhouette getting ready to hit the shelves next year. The mocassin inspired Lightblaze Moc takes a lot of cues from the Yeezy Foam Runner and is set to release in two colourways next spring.
Looking at the official images, you can tell that these slip on shoes are an attempt by the Three Stripes to fill the void left by the iconic Yeezy silhouette, the Foam Runner. Much like the Foam Runners, the Lightblaze Moc is crafted entirely from foam. It features a narrow foot entry and a forefoot adorned with five stripe cutouts, giving it a claw like appearance.
adidas' top tier cushioning system, "Lightstrike," is prominently featured, as indicated by the text on the lateral heel, complemented by an outsole with diagonal tread. The two forthcoming Lightblaze Moc colourways exhibit clear Kanye influences, showcasing the marbled "MX" pattern the artist popularized.
One version comes in "Glow Blue" grey/blue, while the other comes in "MX Carbon" green/pink over black. Looking at the official photos, we can tell that this sneaker will have a lightweight construction, complete with what appears to be hooded cushioning that enhances comfort, making it ideal for everyday wear.
The Lightblaze Moc enters the market amid a surge of new EVA slip ons, as major brands like Crocs strive to replicate the success of Kanye's adidas designs.
While adidas has yet to announce an official release date for the Lightblaze Moc, it is anticipated to debut in the Spring 2025 shopping season.
