Taking to his Instagram, Brand Director Victor Kan posted images revealing an upcoming collaboration between US-based retailer Packer and adidas. The photo featured two shoes, both of which were very similar to the adidas FYW Intimidation, albeit in a new contemporary make-up. Similar to the techy runners of the early 2000s, adidas’ ‘Feet You Wear’ basketball range continues to be a source of inspiration for 3-Stripes products in today’s footwear industry.
Upon first sight, many may think that the FYW Intimidation was inspired by silhouettes like the Yeezy 500, however, it’s completely the other way around. The adidas FYW Intimidation was born from adidas’ experimental ‘90s period when the brand had turned its focus to performance products that were closely moulded to the shape of your foot. On this pair, you can clearly see the wavy outsole from the shoe’s side profile, its high raises providing support in combination with the TPU ribcage on the sidewall. Mini adidas branding can also be found littered throughout, a contrasting mix of blue and yellow that can be found on both sets of shoes. The heavy set of rope laces and breathable mesh underlays grounds the shoe in its basketball roots, while the muted greys and beige midsole lends to wear on-and-off the court.
While there are no release dates as of yet, this new collaboration is a good sign for the future potential of the adidas basketball line. Make sure to tune into The Sole Supplier for more information regarding the Packer x adidas FYW Intimidation “White Grey” drop!
