Dingyun Zhang x adidas Samba White Vapour

Chinese contemporary designer Dingyun Zhang unveils his latest reinterpretation of the quintessential adidas Samba to banner his AW24 collection. This collaboration is a follow-up to the Shanghai-based creative’s inaugural project with the 3-Stripes in early 2024 featuring the same iconic sneaker. The Dingyun Zhang x adidas Samba “White Vapour” contrasts the first edition with a neutral-toned makeover, decked out in premium materials inspired by several models from the Herzogenaurach-based brand’s archives.

This sleek trainer boasts an off-white upper crafted in nubuck and suede, reinforced with puffy collars reminiscent of early 2000s skate shoes. Recognisable design elements like the T-toe overlay remain true to form, preserving the silhouette’s footballing roots. Minimalist 3-Stripes grace the sides, recognisable only through the stitching and perforations on the midfoot. The ribbed tongue displays co-branded labels to honour the flourishing partnership between the two entities. Wavy ripples on the heel pay homage to the Predator Absolute football cleat from the mid-noughties. A textured rubber sole sits underfoot, capping off this limited-edition Samba’s monotone makeover.
