Among the slew of retro cult favourites is the adidas Tischtennis, a sports shoe born in the 1970s. The Tischtennis, or Table tennis in English, was a shoe designed during a period where the 3-Stripes heavily focused on indoor sports. Unlike the casual trainer releases of the time, the Tischtennis was designed with a specific sport in mind which made it ripe for the picking by adi-heads in the following decades.
It’s large mesh underlay indicates its sports-specific build, placing a focus on breathability which would give today’s running shoes a run for their money. A suede toe and heel cup add structure to the loose upper, with canvas eyelet panel providing a stable base for lace lockdown. Due to the rapid nature of table tennis, the gum sole is formed around the movement of placing weight into the forefoot area, which is why the adidas Tischtennis sits off the ground around the midfoot section. The unique traction pattern is seldom seen elsewhere within the adi catalogue, giving this model another distinctive edge.
If you fancy a pair of 3-Stripe trainers with a niche history in sport and a simple colourway, then you won’t find a better fit than these. Find out where you can buy the adidas Tischtennis “Black White” by keeping it locked to The Sole Supplier!
