Junya Watanabe gets the go-ahead on another New Balance heritage silhouette, adding one more to his extensive list of collaborations. Watanabe has frequently partnered up with the Boston-based footwear brand in the past, with a number of rumoured additions already set to drop later in 2023. This announcement is sure to bring joy to loyal Watanabe fans out there, as the New Balance Rainier fits perfectly within the hybrid workwear collections that the Japanese fashion designer created with Carhartt.
The conventional leather tooling normally found on the Rainier has been swapped out for a collection of soft brown suede. Pieced together, the suede overlays are attached via a cream contrast stitching that closely matches the canvas underlays, furthering the workwear motif. Around the ankle collar, supple leather cushions the foot entrance and inner lining, giving you the same plush feeling found on other limited editions such as the Aimé Leon Dore versions. On the rear, the “eye” wordmark is debossed into the panelling, a consistent piece of branding found across all of Watanabe’s collaborative works with New Balance.
As with all of the other library of Junya editions, you can expect a higher price point for this special edition Rainier boot. For further updates on the Junya Watanabe Man x New Balance Rainier “Brown”, make sure to tune back into The Sole Supplier!
