It is a well-known fact that Michael Jordan is not a fan of the colour green. People have speculated that this is due to his rivalry with the Boston Celtics, who at the time were dominating the NBA thanks to the legendary Larry Bird. However, the Air Jordan 1 High did see a “Metallic Green” release in ’86 but it took over 20 years till we saw the colour make a comeback in 2009. That year we saw the “Sea Greens” and AJ1 Retro High DMP pack drop, which is when the silhouette finally introduced the colour on its panelling. After that, the rollout of green Jordans intensified, leading us to this release of the Air Jordan 1 Low “Pine Green”.
The foam tongue and embroidered Jumpman sit underneath a set of black laces for this Low iteration. Following the same colour blocking as the “Bred Toe” pair we saw in ’21, the green can be seen in all the best places including the toe box, Swoosh and heel. The classic white midsole also returns along with the wings insignia on the back of the shoe. Standard comfort is expected with these as with every other AJ1 release bar the updated Zoom Comfort edition. The people over at Jordan Brand have produced another solid green colourway to add to the lineage of this silhouette, now let’s hope we get a “Metallic Green” retro in the near future.
