Nike Air Max 1 Shima Shima

After two decades, the Shima Shima make-up has emerged from its deep sleep, casting its eyes on the Air Max 1 once again. We saw the beloved brown tones of the Shima Shima pack leap back onto the Air Trainer 1 in 2022, with the OG crowd praising the return of what used to be a European exclusive. While this Air Force 1 isn’t exactly a direct retro of the 2003 editions, it does combine the different colour schemes for what will be a hybrid of the two. So far, the images that have surfaced are fairly clear but we’re yet to receive official photos from the Swoosh itself. Regardless, we’ll be keen to see how this Air Max 1 Shima Shima will be embraced by the sneakerhead community.

The AM1’s OG tooling is present on the pair, mixing in the brown tones with the grey and white colour blocking that can be found on the OG Dunk and AM1 pairs. A brown Swoosh, mudguard and laces give the retro that early millennia feel with a contemporary twist, with the earthy tone garnering a reputation on Nike products thanks to hot collabs with Travis Scott. The red Japanese lettering remains, as does the unique pinstripe on the inner lining that is unmistakably linked to the 2003 editions. Underfoot, the iconic Air Max 1 tread is imbued with the same mixture of grey and brown, tying a neat bow on this hybrid retro from the Swoosh.

We reckon this pair of Nike Air Max 1 “Shima Shima” is set to be a hit, however, the decline in hype for the silhouette in 2022 could result in a waning reception from the modern sneakerhead.
