The Nike Air Max SYSTM is a retro-inspired lifestyle shoe borrowing '80s Air Max aesthetics. It joins other takedown models featuring design elements from the Nike Air Max 1, which first came out in 1987. Silhouettes like the Air Max SC, Air Max SYSTM, and the kids’ Air Max Motif flaunt the signature mudguard of the AM1 . The Nike Air Max SYSTM features a breathable mesh base with the recognisable suede mudguard of the AM1. Fuse overlays comprise the sides, sitting below the Nike Swoosh logos. The foam midsole has a visible Air Max unit in the heel, surrounded by a TPU heel counter with an Air Max label, similar to the AM90. A modified waffle outsole follows the same traction pattern as Tinker Hatfield’s Air Max 1 but with a few tweaks.
This colourway features a yellow mesh base with a black suede mudguard in front. Navy accents adorn the fuse panels, lining, and outsole. University of Michigan’s yellow “M” logo is added on the tongue, while the sockliner boasts yellow and navy blue graphic patterns. The white leather heel panel commemorates the university’s year of establishment with embroidered 1817 labels. Finishing the design is the blue and yellow rubber outsole.
