Nike pays tribute to the alma mater of Nike co-founders Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, the University of Oregon, with this Air Max SYSTM “Collegiate Pack”. The Oregon-based sportswear brand has a long history with the Oregon Ducks, including honouring Phil Knight’s late son Matthew Knight by naming the school’s home arena after him. This Nike Air Max SYSTM “Oregon” proudly represents the Ducks with their school colours and university logo.
The Air Max roster grows as Nike adds modern retro silhouettes recycling some details from iconic Air Max pioneers. This Air Max SYSTM pays homage to the 80s Air Max design, incorporating the mudguard and plastic eyelets of the Air Max 1. Mesh comprises the main upper of the Nike Air Max SYSTEM, while suede adorns the front and fuse overlays cover the midfoot and the rear. Leather materials on the eyestay and heel panel bring more reinforcements to the upper. The visible Nike Air bubble in the heel gets surrounded by a TPU case above, with PU foam comprising the entire midsole. A modified waffle traction pattern completes the outsole, a design invented by Bill Bowerman by using his wife’s waffle iron and filling it with rubber.
This rendition boasts a yellow mesh base with green accents on the fuse overlays and a black suede mudguard. University of Oregon’s logo adorns the tongue, while the university’s foundation year in 1876 comprises the heel. Duck graphics on the sockliners represent the Oregon Ducks sports teams of the school. The classic modified AM1 waffle sole consisting of green and yellow accents finishes off this school-inspired colourway.
