Stussy x Nike Air Max Penny 2 Black Green

The Air Max Penny 2 is the second silhouette in a line-up of basketball shoes that were designed for NBA legend Penny Hardaway. Debuting in 1997, the Air Max model has seen a number of retros since with each release being eagerly snatched up by fans of the player and silhouette alike. Stüssy is amongst the latest slew of brands given Nike’s permission to introduce the silhouette to a new but also existing fanbase.

With Stüssy already having dropped a Black pair draped in a heavy ripstop, the 80s surfwear brand has changed up the vibe on its second release. A vibrant green suede has been mixed into the shoe’s top portion, set against a deep black which resembles the palette used on the 2017 Supreme Nike Air Humara. A brushed leather sits wedged between the undulating midsole and green piping which ties in nicely with the subtle metallic motif. Co-branding can be found underfoot where the Penny emblem rests alongside the Stüssy logo in the plastic centre piece of the heel. On the back there sits a silver chain-like heel counter that swaps the usual embroidered Swoosh for the early 2000s Nike minimalist lettering logo. The usual air unit, pull tabs and carbon shank plate are still there hidden amongst the shade of black that swallows up the midsole.
