Dipping back into the Nike archives, Drake and his NOCTA sub-label reimagine a ‘90s basketball cult classic for its latest offering. As a nod to the OG Zoom Air Flight 95 colourway, the debut Nike NOCTA Glide “Black White” showcases carbon fibre-inspired details, bug-eyed midsoles and a woven upper. Spotted wearing these courtside, the Canadian megastar’s new Glide silhouette is finally hitting the shelves after months of blurry pictures and sneakerhead speculation.
Following the NOCTA x Nike Distant Regards Collection that featured three Nike Hot Step Air Terra colourways, Drake’s sub-label combines ‘90s design language with a contemporary update, resulting in the Nike NOCTA Glide. Inspired by the silhouette heavily associated with basketballer Jason Kidd, the Zoom Air Flight 95 was in fact a Team Jordan edition and not a signature shoe. Given the artist’s busy touring lifestyle, it should come as no surprise that the Glide’s DNA is rooted in performance, as musicians frequently compare life on the road to a form of athletic endurance.
The woven sidewall and stability pods keep you firmly centred on your feet, with a looped lacing system and gusseted tongue providing further lockdown. An icy outsole winds it back to the ‘90s, where silhouettes such as the Air Jordan 5 and Nike Air Foamposite 1 would place the feature on centre stage. Similar to his first silhouette, the yellow traction pods below echo the golden yellow heel of the second Hot Step Air Terra colourway, a nod to its predecessor. A pull tab at the back makes these easy to slip on, with a co-branded sockliner boasting NOCTA’s shooting stars insignia that can also be spotted on the tongue.
