Nike is re-retroing a classic colourway from its OG Be True collection, giving you another chance to own this archival piece of basketball history. While this St John’s-inspired edition did drop back during the Dunk’s 35th Anniversary celebrations in 2020, and in a Dunk High version prior to that in 2016, its appearance on the shelves is always a brief one. Worth noting is the SP acronym nestled within the title (or Special Projects in Nike speak), a detail that was also included in the 2020 edition and another reminder that this is not your standard general release pair. Smooth leather can be found on the upper, coated in a bright red and white panelling that mimics the collegiate colours of St. John’s University. A set of red laces match the Nike Futura logo on the tongue label, sewn here onto the canvas texture that harks back to the OG tooling, getting you one step closer to feeling like the you’ve got an ’86 pair laced up on foot, albeit in a Low-cut version. Rocking these with a matching St. Johns jersey will have you feeling like Mark Jackson facing off against the defence during the ’86 season, a sensation any basketball fan is willing to recreate.
