With leather supplies supposedly running low at Nike HQ, the Swoosh turns to the safety of soft satins for more of its classic Dunk colourways. Similar to the Air Jordan 1, the Dunk is next up on the list for an assortment of iconic satin editions. This University of Nevada, Las Vegas edition, was originally released in the ‘80s “Be True To Your School” pack, with this Low iteration dropping in ‘85/86. Who would have imagined that almost four decades later, the Dunk would be receiving this plush tooling?
Not much has changed in terms of the two tone colour blocking, unlike the reverse or Twist edition, the construction is just simply satin. From toe box to heel tab, the leather tooling is nowhere to be seen and while these might be less susceptible to creasing, satin is more vulnerable to dirt. With the Dunk currently positioned in the industry as a lifestyle option, Nike recognised this, knowing the upper would certainly get chewed up if they were to be skated in. While the industry might be full of silly moments, sneakerheads have clocked onto this as there has yet to be videos of somebody actually catching buckets in a pair of Air Jordan 1 High “Satin Royal” since they dropped in 2017.
Nike are rumoured to be releasing more satin editions throughout 2023, so make sure you’re locked into The Sole Supplier if you’re after a pair of these Dunk Low “UNLV Satin” or any other future releases!
