Tokyo-based fashion label COMME de GARCONS shows no signs of slowing down in 2023 as another collaboration with Nike surfaces. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen CdG take on an archival silhouette from the Swoosh, dropping a triple-black edition of the Eagle back in April of ’22. Now COMME heads for the court with this OG silhouette from ‘81, hoping to ace its delivery on the Tennis Classic capsule.
This “Black” edition echoes the marbled hues we saw on the CdG Air Max 97s from the year before, while also bearing a comparison to the Pigalle x Nike Air Force 1 Low SP “Cool Grey” from 2014. The upper is decked out in a premium leather, with a supple lining giving you a cushioned feel around the ankle collar. A set of faded grey laces are threaded throughout, with metal aglets a further indication of the shoe’s quality. A leather tongue label replaces the standard fabric one, a marbled Nike logo debossed into the grain. The midsole below is grounded in the Classic’s OG tooling as flecks of white play into the marbled motif.
Both Nike’s general and special releases look to hype up the vintage trainer category, with this particular edition being a great example of what 2023 has to offer. Make sure you check back in with us over at The Sole Supplier for more updates on when this CdG x Nike Tennis Classic “Black” will be dropping!
