After dropping a trifecta of Nike Vandal colourways a few months earlier, California-based streetwear giant Stüssy is back for another collaboration featuring the mid-80s basketball shoe. It’s been quite a productive partnership between the two powerhouse brands, dating back to 2000 with an iconic Air Huarache makeover. This Stüssy x Nike Vandal Hi “NOMA Black” is a Japan-exclusive release, headlined by hand-dyed textile patterns and unique graphics made in collaboration with Tokyo-based label NOMA t.d.
Formed in 2005 by Masako Noguchi and Takuma Sasaki, NOMA t.d. mastered hand-dyed craftsmanship and hand-drawn textiles, cementing the brand’s good reputation in the fashion industry. Like the three initial colourways in the collab, this special-edition Nike Vandal Hi has a hemp construction with a dark navy and black combination. Bright pink accents adorn the lower panels of the upper, made possible by NOMA’s hand-dyed processes. The embroidered Swooshes, Nike branding, and intricate patterns on the strap also appear in the same pink hue. Stüssy branding decorates the tongue, with exposed foam adding a vintage touch to the ‘80s basketball model. The clean white rubber sole boasts a contrasting finish to this three-way collaborative take on the Nike Vandal.
