Every brand has its sneaker entry for the Y2K trend right now, and PUMA won’t miss out. Earlier in the year, the German sportswear brand unveiled the new Velophasis model, inspired by 2000s footwear aesthetics. Los Angeles-based streetwear brand Pleasures partners with PUMA for this Velophasis “Grape Wine” edition.
The PUMA Velophasis took inspiration from the brand’s COMPLETE line, a series of performance-running silhouettes. There are two Velophasis silhouettes, the Bionic and the Phased. The Velophasis Bionic combines the design aesthetics of the 2000s with modern materials. Asymmetrical lines on the upper and the large Formstrip logo headline the silhouette. The Velophasis Phased flaunts metallic details on the upper as an ode to the Vaporwave movement and internet trend of the early 2000s. Bright accents are the main highlight of the Phased model.
This collaboration boasts an all-pink makeover with darker shades on the ripstop mesh base and rear panels. Pleasures branding appears on the lateral semi-translucent collar with co-branded labels on the tongue. PUMA logos also adorn the heel for more brand labelling. The light pink foam midsole features an aged aesthetic, while the decoupled rubber outsole completes the retro-futuristic design.
