It’s a well-known fact in the footwear world that adidas is the parent brand of Reebok, well at least it has been since it purchased the American footwear label back in 2006 for a whopping $3.8 billion.
While the two labels seem to both be thriving in their own rights, rumour has it that the three stripes are gearing up towards selling the Reebok name on. The current CEO of adidas Kasper Rørsted had claimed he would revitalise Reebok when he took over the brand in 2016 and has even stated he’d never sell the sister brand, although rumours now suggest otherwise!
As a brand, Reebok has experienced a huge surge in popularity as of late, largely due to successful collaborations with the likes of Palace Skateboards, JJJJound, Sneeze Magazine and many more big names. The news of this expected sale has come as a shock to us here at The Sole Supplier and many others in the industry!
Several internal sources claim that a dedicated team has been set up at adidas HQ to work on the sale, and one of the potential buyers is VF Corporation, the powerhouse behind Vans, The North Face and Timberland to name but a few. We’ll have more in this situation as it unfolds, in the meantime check out the rest of our site and an on-foot look at the latest sacai x Nike colourway!
