BAPE's SS21 Footwear Collection Channels Retro Basketball Sneaker Vibes

Streetwear OG BAPE (also known as A Bathing Ape) has been on the scene for a lot longer than most brands out there these days and we’re almost certain it’s down to the fact that the designs simply never miss! The label has recently unveiled a brand-new footwear collection for the SS21 season, with the pairs clearly inspired by retro basketball sneakers.

While the main focus points towards the court-sport, it’s also worth noting that skate culture also plays a huge role in the design inspiration here, with the lookbook photos depicting skate decks adorned with BAPE’s signature camouflage patterns!

Both high and low-top sneakers are featured throughout the collection, with different variations crafted from assorted fabrics including leather and suede. The A Bathing Ape star logo is present on all the pairs, a design that first featured on the iconic BAPESTA many years ago.

The colour-blocking seen across the various colorways previewed here is arguably strong, with one pair in particular even bearing a striking resemblance to Kanye West’s legendary College Dropout BAPESTA collaboration from back in 2007. While we’ve always been BAPE fans here at TSS it’s worth noting that this is without a shadow of a doubt one of the strongest lineups we’ve seen in recent years!
