Following cryptic invites sent from Donatella Versace herself last week, the fashion rumour mill was in full swing and quickly reporting a possible Versace x Fendi collaboration during Milan Fashion Week. Just yesterday we saw this collaboration become a reality with a star-studded runway show located at Versace's headquarters.
The collection is entitled “VERSACE BY FENDI — FENDI BY VERSACE” and looks to both brand's extensive and historic archives for inspiration. Lead figures Donatella and Silvia Venturini Fendi swapped roles for this link up and bought their distinct eye and styles to each other's namesake.
The runway itself saw stars such as Evan Mock, Emily Ratajkowski and Gigi Hadid sport a variety of striking prints and styles from both designers. Donatella Versace's take on Fendi saw heavy use of the classic and timeless "F" monogram print while Silvia's Versace additions were set across a number of bold and brash draped styles. In addition, several co-branded pieces were on display sporting both prints and logos from both brands.
While Donatella noted “It’s a first in the history of fashion" that two designers had a “true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship”, earlier this year we saw Gucci x Balenciaga come together for their somewhat similar "Hacking Lab" collection. Are joint partnerships the future of high fashion? We guess only time will tell. In other news, flex those antibodies with Valentino's "VACCINATED" hoodies.
