The rumours are true, in light of Gucci celebrating its centennial anniversary we see a mash-up of huge proportions in the form of Alessandro Michele's Gucci x Balenciaga "Hacking Lab". Gucci confirmed theories after presenting its new "Aria" collection with a short fashion film, and we're here to check it out!
Frequently reiterated by the Italian fashion house's representatives, this joint body of work isn't to be called a "collaboration" of sorts but instead a "hacking lab". Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele has lifted elements of Balenciaga's design history (with permission of course) and fused them uniting key motifs from both fashion houses. The result is a variety of bold and striking pieces where some feature both brand logos alongside all the familiar tropes.
The short film itself seems to be set in an avant-garde styled nightclub eventually making way to a dream-like woodland setting. Though both brands take the spotlight visually, the soundtrack is 100% Gucci featuring familiar hip-hop homages such as Lil Pumps "Gucci Gang", Bhad Babie & Lil Yatchy's "Gucci Flip Flops" and "Green Gucci Suit" by Rick Ross.
Are collabs a thing of the past, and is "hacking" the future? Gucci seems to think so but only time will tell! In other news, it looks like the Yeezy Boost 700 "Wave Runner" is getting a major restock!
