A firm fixture in the footwear scene, the Yeezy Slide was the subject of conversation last year, as Ye accused adidas of copying the design with its 2022 Adilette model. After the duo’s partnership came to a messy end in the final months of 2022, adidas announced that it would retain the rights to most Yeezy designs, but rumour has it that the Yeezy Slide isn’t one of them, which would allow competitors to slide in to fill the gap, if you catch our drift.
Moulded from one-piece EVA foam, Nike’s new Calm Slide keeps things pretty clean and simple, arriving in a familiar chunky build across five tonal colourways. A more fashion-forward offering than the Swoosh’s Benassi model, the sneaker keeps some key details from its predecessor, most notably the ridged footbed that provides added grip. Underfoot, the stacked sole unit mimics that seen on the Air Force 1, sporting ridges that are much more subtle than that seen on the Yeezy Slide. To finish, Swoosh branding decorates the footbed and strap - an on-the-nose reminder that this is in fact a Nike shoe.
Though there are clear and obvious differences, sneaker fans have been quick to point out the similarities between Nike’s new Calm Slide and the aforementioned Yeezy model, but hey - what’s the market without a little competition? If you’re looking to add these to your rotation and fill the void that the Yeezy Slide left, then be sure to hit the release reminder links and stay locked for more release info as it comes in.
Up next, could the first unbranded Yeezys be dropping soon?
