Since his appointment as artistic director of the fashion house in September 2021, NIGO's aesthetic influence over the KENZO brand has been plain to see. Now, the famed Japanese designer has revealed his first sneaker silhouette for the luxury-french house, building upon what's been a strong start so far.
Entitled the KENZO-DOME, these sneakers look to early mid-90s skateboarding styles for inspiration. The "DOME" portion of the name even is inspired by the DÔME skate spot located near Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Four colourways are on offer, sporting pink, white, black and beige hues, respectively. A gum sole is featured on each model, with the material extending through to the midsole on the beige and pink renditions. Uppers are crafted from suede or grained leather, with tonal Kenzo logos decorating the top of the tongue, finished by a "K" logo at the heel.
While it's clear the KENZO-DOME is obviously skate-inspired, certain users on the web are pointing out the similarities to the cult-classic Jason Lee Airwalk Pro silhouette from the same era. Sly rip-off or just simply inspired? You be the judge. The KENZO-DOME range launches today via the brand's website. In other footwear news, the Jacquemus x Nike J Force 1 appears with a woven sole unit.
