Article updated 24/11/23: It didn't take long for Matthew Williams' Nike x 1017 ALYX 9SM Air Force 1 Low sketches to come to life, and unfortunately, things are looking like what we feared. Taking to Instagram, the designer showcased the first official look at the upcoming collaboration, and its been met with a mixed reception to say the least.
As detailed in the sketches, both a white and black colourway of the silhouette have been prepared with a minimalist approach to details. Besides a "1017 ALYX 9SM" detail at the heel, a co-branded dubrae, and a singular metal eyelet, each of the shoes is exactly the same as its classic Nike version.
Naturally, social media users had a field day with this one, with the top comments reading "bro changed exactly 2 small details about the shoe" and "Thank you so much for NOTHING."
Despite this reception, this model will no doubt prove popular among the minimalist crowd, so perhaps all is not lost. If you happen to be one of those interested, the shoe is expected to land imminently, so be sure to set a release reminder below. Keep reading for the original article.
Original article 24/11/23: Okay, you might have to take "previews" with a pinch of salt, but Matthew Williams has confirmed what is going to be the next collaboration between Nike x 1017 ALYX 9SM. Having already tackled the Air Force 1 High and Mid, the designer now has his sights set on the AF1 Low silhouette.
Delivering a duo of stencilled images on Instagram, the 1017 ALYX 9SM and Givenchy creative director has given us a bare-bones look at what's to come, and dare we say it, but we aren't quite sharing the vision so far. In the images, we see what is essentially the classic Air Force 1 silhouette stamped with a 1017 ALYX 9SM at the heel.
Given Matthew Williams' use of the buckle motif with the previous silhouettes, we can likely guess that this model will be more than what we're seeing right now. After all, who needs another blank Air Force 1 collab? (Looking at you here, fragment.)
It's also worth noting that no information on texture and colouring is available yet, meaning this pair might be way more exciting than we're currently imagining too. Either way, it's looking like we won't need to wait much longer to find out. Williams finished the post with a "coming soon," but when exactly "soon" is remains to be seen. Keep it locked in right here for all the latest on this story as it unfolds. Up next, the sacai x Nike Magmascape features a hybrid design.
