In early 2020, Kobe Bryant lost his life along with eight other passengers (including his daughter, Gianna) in a tragic helicopter accident. Basketball fans have been in mourning since and Nike has recently announced plans to honour Kobe – also known as the Black Mamba – with a full week devoted to continuing his legacy.
Mamba Week is kicking off come 23rd August 2020 and it will revolve around three key efforts: a $1m donation to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports foundation, a continuation of support for the Mamba league and special drops from Nike and Kobe's collaborations.
To kick off the week, Nike is releasing the Kobe 5 Protro 'Big Stage Parade' – this boasts a blend of the world-famous Big Stage colourway seen in the 2010 NBA finals and the graphic mosaic seen in the Championship Parade. The following day – which is dubbed 'Mamba Day' – the Lakers' colourway will be available in its classic purple and gold. Alongside the footwear, Nike and the NBS is also dropping a limited number of Kobe Bryant jerseys. Although the Kobe 5 Bruce Lee and Kobe 5 Undefeated aren't expected to drop during 'Mamba Week', rumour has it they will drop later this year.
Set your alarms for 23rd August and get ready to celebrate the legacy of Kobe Bryant for 'Mamba Week' later this month. And, while you're here, why not check out these 13 Nike sneakers all under £60!
