The return of certain New Balance gems from the archive have taken the sneaker world by storm, notably fan-favourite silhouettes like the 2002Rs, 550, 990v3, plus more. On that note, the Boston footwear powerhouse is readying the return of the 580 with the help of Palace (a renowned Lonon-based skateboarding/fashion brand), making it the British imprint's first sneaker collaboration with New Balance.
When the New Balance 580 debuted in 1996 as a trail-running shoe, it didn't quite reach sky-high popularity. It wasn't until 2009 that it gained significant traction after New Balance Japan teamed up with the Ueno-based retailer Mita Sneakers and the Tokyo streetwear label Real MadHECTIC. After making its way to the US market in 2007, several renditions of the NB580 followed.
Now, the trainers are greeted with a warm reception by Palace Skateboards and come equipped with two '90s-inspired colourways in shades of "Lapis Blue", "Neutral Gargoyle", "Pansy Violet", and "Deep Shaded Spruce", with the latter in a two-toned outfit. A mix of mesh and furry suede constructs the ensemble, accompanied by a Rollbar-infused midsole and Palace-branded lace locks, lace tips, tongues, and heel overlays to complete.
The Palace Skateboards x New Balance 580 is dropping in-store and online on the 23rd of August via Palace's official site. A global release from New Balance will then follow shortly after. Stay locked in The Sole Supplier if you don't want to miss out on the latest New Balance release dates. In related news, the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 993 "Performance Art" surfaces in three colourways.
