Now, both brands are looking to recapture that same success, as they’ve just revealed the upcoming
Introducing a brand-new take on NB’s classic 991, the Stone Island 991v2 retains the silhouette’s Made in UK heritage, as it comes built in the Boston-born brand’s Flimby factory in the north of England. Given that the collaborative partnership is now celebrating its 10th anniversary, it only seems fair that Stoney has been entrusted to put its stamp on a new version, as the brand’s penchant for technical fabrics and attention to detail makes it the perfect partner to bring the classic 991 into the modern age.
That being said, images of the pair are very few and far between right now, so it’s hard to know exactly what to expect. Official promo images shared by both New Balance and Stone Island give us a glimpse at the shoe’s outsole details, coming stamped by Stone Island branding, but offering no further hints towards what the silhouette might look like. Similarly, an image shared on Instagram by Dane3fune reveals that the pair will come with tactical-looking netted mesh and canvas tongues, complete with the Italian outfitter’s compass logo on the tongue tabs.
From what we have seen so far, this pair is shaping up to be even better than the 574, and that pair sold out instantly.
