Stone Island is back to team up with New Balance’s 1988 beloved classic, the 574. Having already released a collection of deconstructed colourways on the RC Elite V2, this isn’t the first time we have seen the two team up. Releasing alongside a set of camouflaged football boots, the 574 had been given a technical makeover which even includes the iconic compass badge.
With Stone Island being notorious for its attention to detail, every part of the shoe has been given a specialist touch. The badge is sported on the tongue, a yellow brushed Velcro underneath, with a brown leather-lined edge. Threaded through the central leather eyestay are the dual-tone laces that add a functional boot dynamic to the shoe. A nappy olive suede predominantly forms the upper and stays true to the darker olive tones we have seen Stone Island use throughout various collections. A square grid pattern makes an appearance on the nylon toe box and heel collar, furthering the shoe’s technical motif. Even the New Balance branding has been given an update in the form of a metallic finish, updating an archival classic with a contemporary edge. The wool lining provides more detail and is another way in which the design creates this premium release feel while on foot.
