In its 25th year, the Nike Air Max 97 remains a cult classic in every sense of the phrase. The brainchild of designer Christian Tresser, Nike's AM97 first released decorated with the famous "Silver Bullet" colourway - one that has only restocked a few of times since - and unlike what is rumoured, this sneaker was not in fact inspired by Japanese bullet trains, but mountain bikes.
One of the cleanest iterations on the market at the moment, the Nike Air Max 97 "Metallic Silver" takes the streamlined, iconic look to the limit, with neat lines and subtle reflective detailing. Take a closer look at the pair below.

As the first sneaker in Nike's roster to house a full-length visible Air unit, the Nike Air Max 97 was forward-thinking 25 years ago, and remains as wearable and as cool to this day without looking 'retro'. This particular design especially pays homage to the futuristic approach the AM97 stands for: reflective silver lines, embroidered mini Swooshes on the upper and toe cap, as well as a hidden lacing system that lends itself to the streamlined design that sneakerheads old and new fall in love with time and time again.
The all-white upper, interspersed by these small charcoal accents, makes for a sneaker that is reminiscent of the original, but a covetable colourway in its own right. Underfoot, a grippy outsole provides traction, perfect for those gritty city streets, whilst the midsole provides foam cushioning that will go unrivalled on the comfort scale.
