Olympic athlete Caster Semenya is seen here modelling the Off-White x Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 5. This is the first official introduction to the collection with release info posted earlier today via Nike UK.
First leaked during the SS19 Off-White runway shoe, Virgil Abloh takes a new and performance-led direction with his latest Swoosh collaboration.
“I started talking with Nike about this women’s running project last summer and at the time, I was very much inspired by the aesthetic and style of track and field athletes. As a result, I invited some of Nike’s elite track and field champions to participate in my SS19 Off-White runway show as the natural forerunner to developing and showcasing the collection,” says Abloh.
Otherwise known as the Off-White x Nike ‘Athlete in Progress’ Collection, this will not only include exclusive trainers but a whole host of matching apparel. Here is a range that “salutes the unbreakable confidence held by runners”, arguably Virgil’s most unusual offering yet.
Far removed from the conventional lifestyle releases as part of “The Ten“, the Off-White x Zoom Terra Kirger 5 is not your everyday sneaker. For starters, track and field tooling features underfoot – not exactly ideal when you’re heading to the pub.
Instead, this is a trainer focused purely on performance. It does, of course, feature Off-White’s signature details though. That includes a deconstructed tongue as well as a cable tie.
Three colourways of the Off-White x Zoom Terra Kiger 5 launch globally on Thursday, June 27th. An initial and limited size run could release earlier, although that’s likely to be an unexpected launch!
