Japanese heavyweights sacai and WTAPS have joined forces for the first time to deliver a selection of apparel inspired by utilitarian design and classic military shapes. For many, this seems like it's been a long time coming, especially when you consider the position and influence both brands have over Japanese streetwear.
The collaboration itself looks to pair Chitose Abe from sacai's knack for distinctive layering with WTAPS' military aesthetic, delivering a unique merge of motifs and structural design. The product offering itself is concise, with the duo only readying 2 shapes for both upper and lower layers. The jacket, or "shirt" rather, is based on WTAPS' classic WMILL-LS 01 and 02 structure, delivering a heavy military aesthetic with functional pockets featured in abundance. Its trouser counterpart draws inspiration from WMILL-Trouser 01 and 02, each bearing a total of six pockets.
The collection also follows WTAPS’s use of workwear fabrics, delivering durable cotton satin and ripstop materials. These fibres are then accentuated by dashes of satin, a fabric that's become somewhat synonymous with the sacai brand. For those looking to get their hands on the sacai x WTAPS debut collection, it will be available exclusively at Hello sacai, with entry via a raffle until the 24 of March. In other fashion news, rumours of a Nike SB x Carhartt collaboration emerge.
