@sallyssneakers Talks Favourite Sneakers Of 2019, Female Sneaker Culture And More

We caught up with @sallyssneakers, who has made an incredibly huge debut into the female sneaker scene this year. Having just started her sneaker-focussed Instagram in January, nothing but heat has been coming from it!

What has been your favourite sneaker release of the year? 

I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say the Melody Ehsani Air Jordan 1 Mids. This has been a very special release to me and if you follow me, you already kind of know why. Melody is Persian like myself and a part of her vision for this release was raising awareness of women and female empowerment, which is something the women of Iran are truly in need of. Not only the message behind the shoe, but the colours, the mismatch and the watch on top; everything about it just had my name written all over it.

Do you think the female sneaker culture has changed at all this year?   

It's a bit difficult for me to say, cause I haven't entirely felt female sneaker culture much before this year. I wasn't on Instagram before 2019 but I feel like Instagram is a great platform for actually connecting with other women with the same interest and passion for sneakers, so for me, we're headed in the right direction. We've had some good women's releases and I feel like brands are trying harder to include smaller sizes on limited releases. There's still a long way to sneaker equality though.

What has been your favourite collaboration from 2019? 

Most of my followers know I'm a bit funky and that I like colours, so there's no doubt that I was deeply impressed by the sacai x Nike collab. They've managed to take the Waffle Racer which was not hyped at all, to create a highly anticipated sneaker that has beautiful colour combinations, is futuristic and also different to look at. They stand out from any other release this year.

If you could only wear one pair of sneakers for the next 5 years, what would it be?

That is absolutely impossible for me to answer but as I love my Melody Ehsani Air Jordan 1 Mids at the moment, I would be willing to wear them every day for the rest of my life haha! I have a bunch of runner ups though; Wotherspoon, sacai and Yeezy Waverunner.

Are there any sneakers you'd love to see hitting the stores in 2020? 

In general, I'd love to see more colour, more velcro swooshes on different silhouettes and more hybrids! 

What is a pair of sneakers you think everyone needs in their rotation?

Everyone needs a pair of Air Force 1's! They're a classic that go with everything, also it adds a few centimetres to the height of not so tall people (like myself!).
