The sneaker game is like a revolving door. Silhouettes enter one end and leave the other end. Just a few moments later, the exact same model will return and become hyped once more only to lose its relevancy later on. This has always been the case in the industry, and today, The Sole Supplier will be letting you know which five retro sneakers will be making massive comebacks in 2022!
While some of these are pretty predictable, there are a few surprising ones that you'll need to read on to find out more about. Just like how Dunks, Huaraches, and Forums completely dominated 2021, these five will do the exact same very soon. Let us know which silhouettes you're feeling the most and make sure you keep it locked for more news and release information for any of these models!
The Air Jordan 2 is probably the most underrated Jumpman silhouette out there, and it's going to make a massive comeback in 2022. Virgil Abloh's Off-White x Air Jordan 2 Low kicked it all off back in November, but it looks like even more high heat collaborations are set to arrive very soon.
Designed by the legendary Bruce Kilgore back in 1987, we've already seen close-up shots of the upcoming Union LA partnership. With that said, our sources tell us that A Ma Maniere and J Balvin will also be taking on the luxurious basketball shoe. While we've all been drooling over the AJ1, AJ3, and of course, the AJ4 over the past few years, it's time for the AJ2 to have its moment in the spotlight.
NB are known for creating retro-looking sneakers, but did you know that the New Balance 550 was originally released in 1989 under the "P550" model name? We saw tonnes of colourways drop and sell out instantly at the end of 2021, but we think that the 550 will have an even bigger year in 2022.
While no collabs and projects have been officially announced yet, Teddy Santis very recently unveiled the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 650R which is directly inspired by the 550. Our sources tell us that loads more clean cut colour schemes are coming soon, so make sure you keep it locked at The Sole Supplier if you want any of these in your collection.
2022 marks the AF1's huge 40th anniversary. While this iconic basketball silhouette has always been a sneaker staple, it looks like the Beaverton brand will be focusing all its efforts on the Nike Air Force 1 Mid variant very soon.
Not only will they be bringing back the iconic "Independence Day" from 1997, they've also partnered up with some of the industry's biggest names for various collections. Following a limited Asphaltgold release in November, both Off-White and Stüssy have major collabs in the works. We've already seen both of these in the wild so we know for sure that they will be launching in 2022. Our sources also tell us that even more big brands will be brought into the fold so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.
There's no doubt that the Nike Air Trainer 1 is one of the most underrated Swoosh silhouettes ever. When Tinker Hatfield first unveiled it back in 1987 he framed it as an ultra versatile model that was created for all different types of activities. Even though the athletic cross training shoe was designed almost four decades ago, its design has pretty much remained unchanged since - a testament to just how timeless it is.
2022 will place a huge emphasis on the AT1. With the brand new SP "Coriander" on the way, Travis Scott also has a three-sneaker capsule in the works. With all that said it's hard to say whether or not this will actually release following the tragic loss of life that occurred during Scott's annual Astroworld Festival.
Not many sneakers can proudly say that they're about to celebrate their 50th anniversary, but the Nike Cortez sure can. One of the sneaker game's most iconic silhouettes, it was the very first track shoe released by Nike in 1972 designed by co-founder Bill Bowerman. Making its debut during the peak of the 1972 Summer Olympics, it gained huge momentum both by athletes and the general public. In fact, the model is still insanely popular even half a century later.
We're going to see loads of special releases and high heat collaborations in the next twelve months, but we already know two have been confirmed. Both Union LA and sacai will be taking on the iconic track runner with each collaborator releasing a total of two colourways.
