German-based skateboarding imprint Civilist Berlin is well known in the footwear industry than just their collaborations with the Swoosh team. Its been over ten years since Alex Flach opened the store, and thereafter, the clothing-slash-footwear boutique has blessed the community with some of the most covetable releases, notably with Vans. And speaking of Vans, the duo has decided to call in German artist Carsten Fock to join the adventure for their latest Civilist x Vans Sk8 Low "Back to the Roots" offering.
Though not as present in the sneaker scene, the Vans Sk8-Low is widely acknowledged by skaters globally not only for its street-ready look via premium materials but also for its board-ready setup by way of re-enforced toecaps and padded collars.
The co-branded ensemble is offered in three standard colourways, "Black", "White", and "Navy", with all pairs indulging in supple suede coating—making it much more refined than the standard Sk8-Hi model. Fock applies his art style by paying homage to Germany's capital through the use of hand-etched phrases embroidered on the side panels that read “SAY GOODBYE TO THE CITY” and “BACK TO THE ROOTS”, and “I ONCE WAS IN BERLIN” imprinted on the special edition shoe box.
The Civilist x Vans Sk8 Low "Back to the Roots" trio is complete with traditional Vans branding details, but keep in mind that the "White" pair is set to be a Civilist Berlin in-store exclusive only.
