It's August, we're (finally) coming to the end of a week-long heatwave and that new-in section online is looking a lot more tempting. But, before you start splashing the cash on some new pieces for the new season, make sure you know what's officially in and what is SO out. We've done some digging and we're here to present you with a definitive trend roundup for the upcoming AW20 season, so you can be the best-dressed guest wherever you go.
Big Bold Blazers
Brightly coloured tailoring is a yes and fitted silhouettes are a no. This season is all about the power blazer! Think masculine, oversized tailoring that'll slip effortlessly over a beautiful chiffon dress and bring a feminine parallel. Play with proportions; team your loose blazer over skinny jeans or leather leggings and always round the outfit off with a fresh, crisp pair of Nike Air Force 1.
Statement Sleeves
A trend that's made its way to the forefront of the fashion scene this summer, balloon sleeves are hanging around for autumn and winter. Off-shoulder silhouettes with puffy, statement sleeves are the look du jour and, with this look, bigger is definitely better. Wear a cropped, balloon-sleeve top with your favourite jeans and a pair of Doc Martens and you're all set.
Go For Gold
Metallics are maximalist in AW20 and top-to-toe shimmer is non-negotiable. Tom Ford, Oscar De La Renta and Celine have put glistening garments at the very top of their essentials list but, let's face it, you're not going to be hitting the supermarket in an ODLR gown and a face mask. Tone it down a little and opt for a simple metallic gold shirt with matching jewellery and you'll feel worth your weight in… you guessed it.
Leather Look
Neo from The Matrix is the ultimate inspo for this look. Where previous leather trends have been more biker than baller, the new take on this oldie but goodie is sophisticated, clean and street-ready. Leather is taking over the trench coat silhouette, capes and jackets with clean lines and minimal details and, luckily for us, leather is born to be paired with clean sneakers. So, the outfitting potential is endless with this one.
Royal Red
For Autumn/Winter 20, colours are louder, prouder and maximalist. The key hue of the season, bold red has to be incorporated into your rotation whether it's just a hint on your sneaks or a statement top-to-toe rouge look, this rich hue is going to be everywhere.
