Two years. Ten silhouettes. Thirty-three sneakers. Tonnes of hype. Virgil Abloh's Off-White x Nike "THE TEN"; collection was, and still is, arguably the most influential sneaker collaboration since adidas teamed up with Run DMC back in the mid-'80s. Meticulously deconstructing and reconstructing ten of Nike's most popular models, saying that this collection changed the sneaker game forever is no exaggeration.
Now that it has sadly come to an end, we're taking a look back at the last two years and ranking "THE TEN"; from the worst to the best, not including ones that weren't really available to the public such as the MoMA colourway and the ComplexCon exclusive. If you took an L on any of these sneakers and desperately need a pair in your collection, be sure to follow @thesolerestocks on Twitter for the latest restock info!
Off-White x Nike Mercurial Vapor 360 Cleat
To start things off, the Off-White x Nike Mercurial Vapor 360 Cleat really isn't for everyone. Released just in time for the World Cup, unless you're a pro footballer, you don't really need a pair of these in your collection. They're not even the nicest looking cleat either, so it earns last place in this list.
Off-White x Nike Court Flare 'QUEEN'
Released as part of the three-sneaker 'QUEEN' collection made in collaboration with tennis icon Serena Williams, out of the trio, the Off-White x Nike Court Flare 'QUEEN' was the only pair you couldn't actually cop. Painted in a grey and silver combination, it's definitely an odd colourway on an odd shoe.
Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly Mercurial 'Orange'
Another sneaker inspired by the Beautiful Game, the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly Mercurial 'Orange' is made to turn heads both on the street and on the pitch - though not necessarily in a good way. With a slew of random coloured spots around the upper, these are actually pretty crazy.
Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'Pink'
This is a pretty controversial choice, but the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'Pink' earns 28th place due to its insanely bright colour. Painted in various shades of pink, the bright red Swoosh may look good on other sneakers but on here it seems out of place. It doesn't help that the "FOAM"; text is in black either and not white.
Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly Mercurial 'Black'
While this one is a lot better than the previously mentioned colourway, the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly Mercurial 'Black' doesn't really have a lot going for it. Made for football fans, we can't take our eyes off the random spots around the upper and the weird rainbow stripe that runs across the lateral side.
Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'Black'
A pretty big improvement compared to its pink counterpart, the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'Black' still lacks a little something. While it's pretty striking to look at, the black translucent material doesn't work that well with colour socks, so you're pretty limited to what you can wear underneath.
Off-White x Nike React Hyperdunk 'THE TEN'
While it's pretty cool that these were worn by NBA players on the court, there's no doubt that the Off-White x Nike React Hyperdunk 'THE TEN' is the weakest out of the original ten releases. Painted in white from heel to toe, these weren't really made for everyday wear as much as they were made to shoot hoops.
Off-White x Converse Chuck Taylor 70
Don't get us wrong, the Off-White x Converse Chuck Taylor 70 is an incredibly fire shoe, but take away the laces and the zip-tie and you're left with a normal Converse shoe. To add to this, its predecessor is so much more creative so it's hard to rank this up there. The striped midsole is dope though.
Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'White'
When the Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'White' was first unveiled, it was literally the ultimate summer shoe, with its breathable Flyknit upper and ultra clean colourway. That said, once the warmer months were over you pretty much had to put these into storage straight away, so it's hard for us to put these up there with the greats.
Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'Volt'
Painted in one of the most popular colourways of recent memory, the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'Volt' was a hit among sneakerheads when they dropped. With a striking black Swoosh shooting across a bright yellow upper, it was unlike any Off-White x Nike shoe before it. That said, there's an almost identical GR version that looks exactly like it.
Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'Black'
If you're a fan of Virgil Abloh's work and you want a shoe that you can wear all day, every day, then the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'Black' is made for you. As stealthy as it gets, a contrasting white Swoosh makes its presence known on the lateral and medial side panels. With that said though, it really isn't the most creative of colours.
Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'Menta'
Previously nicknamed 'Wolf Grey', the Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'Menta' is an incredible shoe. Doused in a slightly transparent grey material, a rainbow Swoosh brings a pop of colour to the otherwise monotone sneaker. Perfect for all-year-round wear, this shoe really deserves to be higher up, but there's just so much heat ahead!
Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'Black'
One of the stealthiest creps in existence, the Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'Black' is pure fire. Dipped in an all-black hue, white accents give the shoe a beautifully contrasted look, and the red zip-tie works perfectly here too. That being said, it's honestly not the most imaginative of coloruways.
Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'Black'
A great looking colourway, the Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'Black' is the perfect shoe to rock all-year-round. With a stealthy black Flyknit upper, a full length Air midsole also features down below in a clear hue, giving the impression that you're walking on air - quite literally.
Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'All Hallow's Eve'
Released as part of the "SPOOKY"; pack for Halloween, the Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'All Hallow's Eve' is straight fire. Painted in an all-cream hue, striking orange accents feature on the Swoosh branding and laces for the ultimate Halloween vibes. We love the creativity behind this release.
Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'Black'
You really can't beat a good old Air Presto, and the Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'Black' is definitely up there when it comes to looks. Sat atop an Air-infused foam midsole, this classic sneaker is combined with contemporary design elements for a look that's made to turn heads. Truly the ultimate flex.
Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'THE TEN'
It's safe to say that the Off-White x Nike Zoom Fly 'THE TEN' kicked off the "transparent"; sneaker trend that's been making the rounds. Coloured in an ultra clean white, these are perfect for both the street and the track, with a foam midsole that's infused with a carbon fibre plate for the perfect blend of lightness and rigidity.
Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'Black'
The Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'Black' definitely deserves its spot up here. Painted in an all black hue, the perfect amount of white features for a beautifully contrasted look. Leather, suede, and mesh make these some of the most premium creps from "THE TEN";, and a blacked out foam midsole with a visible Air unit gives it a classic look.
Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'QUEEN'
Made in collaboration with tennis superstar Serena Williams, the Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'QUEEN' took the sneaker world by storm. Painted in an all-grey hue, a rainbow midsole sits down below for an eye-catching look. Bright yellow accents also feature throughout, reminding people of the colourway's tennis roots.
Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'Grim Reaper'
Part of the wildly popular "SPOOKY"; pack, the Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'Grim Reaper' is insanely hot. Murdered out all-over, a massive white Swoosh shoots down the side panels, leaking onto the midsole for a beautifully deconstructed look. Just the right amount of orange makes its way to the tongue, completing the understated design.
Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'Desert Ore'
Unlike anything Virgil Abloh has ever release, the Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'Desert Ore' dared to be different. While to some it might be quite surprising that we've ranked it so highly, this earthy sneaker gets brownie points just on its creativity. Who knew that orange and teal worked so well with beige?
Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'THE TEN'
Completely reworking the classic AF1, the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 'THE TEN' gave sneakerheads a taste of what Virgil Abloh was up to, and it made a huge impact on the game. While it might not be the most creative looking shoe, its subtle orange, green, and red touches make it stand out above the crowd.
Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'White'
What's there not to love about the Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'White'? Like an cold ice cream on a hot summer's day, this is perfect for the warmer months. That said, you can still enjoy an ice cream when it's freezing, and while it might not be as nice, it's still perfectly satisfying.
Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'THE TEN'
Possibly the most creative sneaker from the OG "THE TEN";, the Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 'THE TEN' is unlike anything you've seen before. Clean white and grey suede wraps around the shoe, while an icy blue midsole sits down below, complete with a visible Air unit. As far as AM90s go, this is the best one you can buy.
Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'White'
The Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'White' came as quite a shock when it was first unveiled. Building on the iconic silhouette, this colourway is made for the warmer months. While it isn't as creative as the other two AJ1s that we'll talk about later, it's still ranked one of the best Virgil x Swoosh shoes to date.
Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'QUEEN'
Out of the three "QUEEN"; sneakers from Serena Williams, the Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'QUEEN' is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best one of the lot. Painted in a very subtle rose pink hue, a rainbow midsole features down below with a full length Air unit following suit. What's there not to love about this release?
Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'UNC'
Inspired by the University of North Carolina's colours, the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'UNC' is painted in a colour scheme not seen on any other Virgil Abloh x Swoosh shoe. Contrasted with orange accents for a subtle but striking effect, this shoe is one of the most iconic AJ1s ever, and that's a big statement.
Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'THE TEN'
While the Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid 'THE TEN' may not be as crazy as some of the other releases up here, it definitely deserves its spot. Reworking the classic sneaker, clean white panels and orange accents give the shoe an ultra versatile look. A massive black Swoosh shoots down the side panels, dipping into the sole for good measure.
Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'THE TEN'
We're in love with the Off-White x Nike Air VaporMax 'THE TEN'. One of the first sneakers that caught our eye when the collection dropped in 2017, this shoe is deconstruction done right. Visible stitching and a fabric tongue complement Virgil Abloh's design philosophy perfectly, and so they definitely deserve a spot up here.
Off-White x Converse Chuck Taylor 'THE TEN'
This is it chief. Unlike any sneaker pretty much in the history of, well, ever, the Off-White x Converse Chuck Taylor 'THE TEN' is absolutely insane. Featuring a fully transparent upper, wearers are encouraged to flex their socks. That means you only need one pair of shoes and tonnes of socks and it'll look like you're wearing a different shoe each time!
Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'THE TEN'
The AM97 was actually inspired by the famous bullet trains in Japan, and the Off-White x Nike Air Max 97 'THE TEN' definitely takes this design to the next level. Sleek and streamlined, these creps look like they're always in motion. Painted in a white and black combination, it really doesn't get cleaner than this.
Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'THE TEN'
Who doesn't love the Off-White x Nike Air Presto 'THE TEN'?! Building on the classic shoe that has remained unchanged since 2000, this Air Presto completely deconstructs and reconstructs it. With a murdered out black upper and a clean white midsole, orange accents give the shoe a look that'll break necks for many years to come.
Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'THE TEN'
In first place, we have the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 'THE TEN'. While this really shouldn't come as a surprise, this shoe deserves the number one spot as it singlehandedly changed the industry forever. Making its debut in late 2017, this AJ1 was actually crowned by the Footwear News Achievement Awards as the 'Shoe Of The Year', and has quickly became the holy grail for many sneakerheads. In fact, two years later, it still has an average resale price of around £1,900, and just the idea of that is mind boggling.
