The Maison Margiela x Reebok Club C Has a Trick up Its Sleeve

The plan launched by Germany's Three Stripes brand to divest itself from its partner brand Reebok was indeed only a rumour at first, though it has recently been made official, the masses aren't exactly fazed by this as the sportswear giants are now able to focus on their respective targets individually as part of a five-year strategy. While adidas is busy with Kanye West's Yeezy line, Reebok has already set the ball rolling with high-profile collaborations, now reuniting once again with John Galliano-led French luxury fashion house, the power duo puts forward the Maison Margiela x Reebok Club C elegantly arranged in a scheme that will trick your eyes.

Arriving with a luxe leather construction in two standard colorways, "Triple Black" and "Triple White", these Club C 85s may seem nothing out of the ordinary, but upon further inspection, it looks like there's more than meets the eye.

Applied with a remarkable art technique called "trompe l’oeil", French for "deceive the eye", the uppers of the shoe works on a single piece of leather base delicately painted with all the panellings of the much-loved Reebok trainers in contrasting hues. This painting style creates an optical illusion making it appear as if all the features of the Club C model are realistically featured on this pair. On the other hand, you can't expect these sneakers not to flaunt co-branding details throughout, notably speaking of Reebok's timeless vector logo alongside Margiela's famous number chart circling the number "22" which represents its footwear line, and the subtle stitching at the rear that directly nods to Mr Martin Margiela's signature four diagonal stitches traditionally used on the label's unlined garments.

The Maison Margiela x Reebok Club C is planned for a global release on the 24th of March via select retailers.
